Jabber/XMPP Account creation

How do I create an account?

Just go here and follow the instructions.

Why do you want my email address?

There are two reasons for that:

  1. So you can safely reset your password if you lose it.
  2. To make automated registration (e.g. by spammers) harder.

We will never give your address to anyone. We will never send you any email except when you try to reset your password or if you have enabled any options in your notifications.

Can I use a disposable address?

We do not care if you use a disposable email address as offered by e.g. Mailinator or SharkLasers. Just don't expect any help from us if you lose your password.

Warning: Remember that anyone with access to your email address can take over your Jabber/XMPP account.

Can I use my client to create an account?

No. Creating an account via your Jabber/XMPP client is a method heavily abused by Spammers and therefore disabled.

Using jabber.at

What client should I use?

We have some recommendations.

Is there a Webclient?

Yes, but it's still experimental. You can find it here.

Is ... your certificate fingerprint?

You can view our certificates and any fingerprints here.

You can also verify the certificates using TLSA/DANE, as our domain are secured via DNSSec. You can either do this locally or via xmpp.net.

Connection issues

Help! I can't connect!

Please make sure that you have configured your client correctly.

Please make sure that you haven't manually configured any details on how the client connects to our server, if you don't know exactly what you are doing. This is usually not necessary, your Jabber ID and password should be enough.

If you just can't figure out what's wrong, please make sure you first consult your clients documentation. If really nothing works, you can contact us for help.

I get the error "policy violation"!

This is the error message you get if there are too many failed authentication attempts with your IP address.

In most cases, this just means that you have misspelled your password. If you're no longer sure what it is, you can reset your password.
